I broke down and bought Gotham Knight. Good stuff. My favorite was the last story. It felt more like old WB Batman. The other drawings of Batman in the other stories didn't fit Conroy's well-established voice.

While waiting to meet Dave, I saw a trailer for Tyler Perry's latest shit-on-a-stick-and-call-it-a-movie. The Family That Preys.

He snagged Alfre Woodard and Kathy Bates for this one. Maybe he kidnapped their grandchildren, or told them he would butt-fuck their poodles if they didn't make his movie. There's gotta be some reason they made a Tyler Perry movie, and it can't be because they weren't forced to. Can it?

I hate you, Tyler Perry.

Agreed. Though, I don't know if he was going for "younger," neccessarily (even though Bruce is younger in this); Conroy's Bruce-voice has always been lighter than his Batman-voice. But, you could be right, too. Hearing Conroy's voice on the skinny Emo-Anime-Christian-Bale Bruce Wayne was the most jarring for me.

One thing I was confused on (spoilers, sort of...) When Alfred comes to rescue Batsy, and asks for his hand, Batman's holding all those guns and says "I can't..." Is this just because he's got a deeper thing against guns than I thought, or was there something I missed in that story (Working through the Pain)?

This entire response continues from Ipsy's "sort of" spoiler, so read at your own risk.

I think they were going for a layer of meanings, but I don't think it was meant to be particularly deep.

On the practical side of things, he can't take Alfred's hand because he will drop all the guns (we see still has them in a box in the next episode, so he obviously held on to them).

He also can't let go of the guns on a more metaphorical level. Guns killed his parents. In his twisted mind, guns are as much to blame for his parents' deaths as poverty, corruption and the general evil of man (id est, guns are one of the symptoms of his city's sickness).

Guns are a pain he hasn't quite worked through. We see, though, that he is working on working through them in the episode where he gives up using that cool new gadget (in "Field Test") because, though it keeps him safe from gunfire, it endangers others. They give us a lingering shot on his pleased face when the gadget is first introduced to him--a kind of "tempted by the Dark Side" moment. That he abandons the gadget is a step in the right direction.

Or it could just be that he is too weak and his arms are too damned tired from holding the guns for him to reach up.

(That last one was a joke.)

That's about what I figured, but I wasn't sure if I missed something.

The Signal is verydifferent. It's made up of 3 acts, each act is written and directed by a different individual. The first and 3rd acts fit together the best tonially, and they're the only essential acts of the movie. However, the middle act is far and away the most entertaining, and is, actually, the only act you really NEED to see!
