Which just made me think. When Obi told Luke that Anakin/Vader was more machine, now, than man . . . he neglected to mention that the majority of Darth's requiring machinery was his doing. I guess he put it that way out of a general sense of compassion for Luke. The way Obi puts it is a little more tasteful than, "I lopped off all your dad's remaining limbs and watched him catch fire because I was too pansy-assed to end his suffering. Or I was just engaging in one last, sweeping act of cruelty. I'm not sure, truth be told."

When Obi-Wan says, "Don't do it, Anakin," what alternative choices did Anakin have? Wasn't Obi-Wan pretty much there to fuck Anakin up? Could Anakin have said, "Sorry there, Old Chum. I was a jerk with the killing and the maiming and the turning to the Dark Side. Now be a dear and help me up onto this bank"? Could Anakin have been trusted to "surrender," since we've already seen (in the opening sequence) that the Anakin/Obi version of surrender is "fake" surrender?

Man. Obi-Wan's an asshole. Also, according to most of the Maul duel, all of Attack of the Clones and the first half of Sith, a pretty mediocre Jedi.

Come to think of it, he doesn't do much in the OT, either. He chops off poor Ponda Baba's arm, and Ponda was just trying to tell Luke he liked his hair. Then Obi gets schooled by a quadruple amputee in an iron lung. When Dooku was OT Obi's age, he was doin' flips and shit.
