It doesn't really bother me too much that they want to rape the corpse of the Terminator franchise, but I don't know why Christian Bale wants to help them do it. Isn't there a movie being shot during the same months that requires an actor to starve himself half to death? There's no way Bale could turn that down!

Did you watch Day Break? She had a prominent roll in that series, being the girlfriend of Taye Diggs' character. Plus, each day would restart with him waking up in bed with her.

I'm still struggling to figure out how McG and Bale ended up in the same production.

There's always potential if they ditch the music video director and actually got a real one.

I don't know, off hand, how many episodes he directed, but McG is involved in Chuck, on NBC, and that's pretty good, so... I dunno...

He's an executive producer on Supernatural, and that's awesome.

However, his Directing usually sucks, as in Charlies Angels.

When he talks, he sounds like Ratner.

I'm not convinced he's not a Ratner alter ego except Ratner wouldn't be creative enough to come up with an alter ego.

If he did, he would name it Rentar Tterb.

Watched this last night.

Something was just off about it, especially the first two-thirds of the film. The third act and ending sequence were easily the highlight, and included some clever/funny nods to the previous films (or first two, to be precise) while featuring a way cool "cameo" from a certain T-800. It was fine overall but there was a distinct lack of heart and the script made it difficult to really get a true appreciation of John Connor, mainly because it rarely gave him a chance to speak more than three sentences at a time or do something besides yell at the top of his lungs.

Bale turned in a solid -- albeit unspectacular -- performance as John, and I can't help but think that not having an actor of his caliber in the role would've made the film that much more... "ok." It's not a memorable film but not an awful one, either. It just is.

There's more I want to comment on but I'll leave it at this for now.

Sometimes. What did you expect, though? That DP was fuckin' distractin'!

That cameo from a certain T-800 caused me to feel odd. There was an uncanniness to it that was simultaneously cool and off-putting. For one, it seemed to be there just to be there--or just to prove they could do it. The face looked believable (startlingly so, which is where a lot of the uncanniness came in). The lifelessness of the face is not the issue, given the character calls for it.

The long shadow shots and the multiple headless body shots only added to the awkwardness of the cameo. I was reminded of the obvious body doubling in Game of Death and Plan 9.

The movie, itself, was sort of bland. It wasn't the awfully terrible piece of shit Harry Knowles wants people to believe it was. He decided to have some agenda against it, whether consciously or unconsciously. Every now and then, I suspect, some kind of switch in his brain is flipped that rip into a movie mercilessly to help him maintain what he believes to be some sort of lingering fanboy credibility.

Fanboy credibility cannot linger because it is at once hypocritical AND mythological.

I liked it.

BUT

Why was Kate allowed to go to Skynet while pregnant? I would think that pregnant women (and children, for that matter), would be the Resistence's greatest asset and protected at all costs... you know... preserving Humanity and all. That's just me, though...

John Connor was able to convince the entire Resistence to commit insubordination just because he's good at giving speeches? I need a little more than that.

And, most importantly...

What exactly was the story?



Did anyone else find it funny that Michael Ironside was once again commanding a sub?

He's not really good at giving speeches, far as I could tell. He's just coasting on his legend as (for lack of a better term) "the chosen one."

It's still not enough. I guess, in this case, I would've been able to accept it better if he just said there are "thousands of people being held at the target."

Plus, my friend pointed out that who's to say it couldn't have been a Terminator impersonating Connor?

I had a friend make the same point.

I caught this with a buddy a couple weeks ago and we were both somewhat disappointed. The action was decent, but as Ipsy points out, the plot was lacking.

I have to agree with your observations on why they held off on the attack. As for the "it could be a Terminator impersonating him" question, I don't think they knew that there were Terminators that could do that yet. There's a scene when Conner is fighting the T-800 where it impersonates someone, (Reese?), and he runs right to it, probably because that's the first time that he had encountered a Terminator that could "mimic" someone else.
