Robert Jordan, author of the bestselling Wheel of Time Fantasy series, passed away last night due to complications from amyloidosis, a rare heart disorder that he'd been fighting for some time. He continued to work on the final volume in his epic series right up until his death, and it was said that he shared all the plot developments with his family.
I'm really saddened by this news. The last I had heard, his condition had been improving and it seemed the worst was behind him. He will remain one of my favorite authors, even if the WoT series itself had begun to lose focus around Book 7 or 8. It's truly a tragedy that he died so young, and before he could complete his seminal work.
R.I.P. Robert Jordan. May the Light shine on you, always.
