I'm going to see this tonight. I picked up tickets the other day for the 7:35 showing tonight. I'm cautiously optimistic. As I've said I LOVED GI Joe as a kid and really want this movie to be good. Other than the "accelerator suits" the trailers have impressed me. They have some great actors in this, (Quaid and Echelston), and they blow stuff up real good in the trailers. I'm on vacation starting tomorrow, but I'll try to drop in with some thoughts before I leave.

I really should have bought this months ago. If I get it now I'll just be jumping on the bandwagon.

No need. I liked it, quite a bit actually. I think it was better than TF 1 & 2, but as I've said, I'm more of a G.I. Joe fan than a TF fan. It has its problems, but overall it was good. Some spoilers below...















The "accelerator suits" were dumb and unnecessary, but they did make for some decent special effects. I think I would have preferred that Duke and Ripcord chased the Baroness' Hummer using a specialized Joe vehicle, like they would have in the cartoons. Luckily the suits were really only in one sequence, (other than the introduction).

Sienna Miller is SMOKIN'!! I knew she is hot, but she looked spectacular as the Baroness, (maybe its the black hair?). I'll buy the DVD just for her! Ulic, if you're reading, it would be great to see some Sienna goodness in the Temple!

Ecchelston is great as Destro, and I love how he ends up in the mask, but I think they need to work on that CGI for the sequel, it seemed a little off.

Levitt is very good as Cobra Commander. He was one of the big question marks going into this for me, but he does a good job. What I didn't like is his mask. It looks stupid. I know the silver dome would have been difficult to pull of on screen, but why not go with the hood? It would have been easy to use that to cover up the breathing apparatus he had on the rest of the movie. Ah well, maybe they'll refine it in the sequel.

I think the story was pretty good, but as good as it was, I don't like what they did with the Baroness and how she's related to Cobra Commander and Duke. It would have been okay to have her be CC's brother, but to have her be the estranged fiance of Duke is a bit much. Also I don't like that she then changed sides. She should have stayed evil, but that's just me.

Thankfully they did not have Snake Eyes speak! The way they portrayed his story, I thought for sure he would say something toward the end after he "killed" Storm Shadow.

Why did they have to kill off Cover Girl?

Duke and Ripcord were okay, and not as annoying as I thought they'd be. But as I've said before, a Wayans brother in G.I. Joe is wrong! There are much better actors that could have played both characters.















I'd give it about 3.5 out of 5 stars. A sequel is definitely in the works, and I'm looking forward to it. I read that Somers is not contractually obligated to the sequel, but most of the cast are. I think that is a good thing. Get a better director and the sequel could be very good.

My understanding is that they didn't go with the hood because people thought it too reminiscent of the KKK.

Saw it. Didn't hate it the way I hated the Transformers movies.

THAT'S the reason for not using the hood? WTF? He's a horribly evil person, so if people see the hood, think KKK and hate him, that's what they're SUPOSSED TO DO!! He's the bad guy!!! Instead they use a jellyfish-stuck-to-his-face looking mask. Dumb.

Well, the same production crew had already put out a movie earlier in the summer with robot brothers considered by more than a few folks to be racist. Maybe they're waiting until G.II. Joe's a definite go before they fire all their racist cannons.
