Saw it. For some reason, the local theater started showing it on Wednesday. I was under the impression that it started on Thursday at midnight, but I suppose I was wrong.

It's bad, but the first one numbed me to a lot of the things that would have frustrated me about this one if I had seen it first. Still, it's bad. The humor is actually more juvenile this time out, if that's possible. (And it's relentless, so good luck connecting to the three or four deli-thin-sliced dramatic scenes tucked away in between the giant Bayhumor loaves.) If it takes you some time to realize this, then it will become abundantly, abundantly clear when you see that they gave Devastator [mild spoiler]testicles[/mild spoiler].

I don't really have the energy to go into it tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

The "racism" is probably less offensive than the fact that, yet again, [mild spoiler]the Autobots kill the fuck out of the Decepticons without mercy or remorse[/mild spoiler].

There are a handful of references for old school Transformers fans.

No G.I. Joe cameos, as had been rumored.

Yeah, I'm "that guy" that propagates Hollywood continuing to make crap. Hopefully it will at least be a fun robot beat-em-up. Based on all the bad reviews I'm going in with low-expectations.

I'm also on record as saying I will be going to G.I. Joe on opening night even though I know in my heart it will probably be bad, and will never live up to my memories of the cartoon.

I wish I were stronger.

So I saw it last night.....



I liked it. Quite a bit actually. I think I actually liked it more than the first one, (which I watched on DVD before going to the theater last night), save for some of the BIG moments in the first one, (the first transformation, the "transform" sound, Optimus's first lines and appearance on screen, and the line "Autobots, roll out!").

I think I was able to enjoy it so much because I knew going in that there would be a LOT of stupid crap, ([mild spoiler]Devastator testicles[/mild spoiler], the Twins, etc.), so I ignored those parts and focused on the story and the characters I liked, Optimus, Bumblebee, Megatron, Starscream, Sam and Mikeala. I can't help it, but I actually enjoyed it.

It was a little distracting that there was a group of 15-20 people behind and to my right that thought the Twins were the funniest thing since Larry the Cable Guy. I also tried to ignore them.

There were some genuinely funny parts, and I liked the story. I've read a couple reviews that claim the story was stupid and hard to follow. Not true if you pay attention or have watched pretty much ANY episodes of the cartoon, (I can post a synopsis for anyone that wants to read it or won't be going to see the movie).

I admit that it could have been better if in the hands of a more skilled director, but I like to just enjoy what's put in front of me, and I enjoyed this.

It actually gives me hope for G.I. Joe. If I can enjoy TF2, I can enjoy the film based on the favorite toys of my childhood.

Ulic, if you're reading, have you seen TF2 yet? Thoughts? I know you loved the first, so I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on the sequel.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts after you do see it. My guess is that if you liked the first one, you'll like this one, (I can't remember your thoughts on the first, but I thought you didn't like it). It will also help that you will have your expectations about as low as they can go before seeing it.

Yeah, I really did not like the first one. At all. I try, to this day, to find something good about it, and fail -- every time.

That said, everything I've read about this new installment suggests (or even confirms) that the "2" in Transformers 2 stands for 2 times all the things I hated about the first one.

I also keep reading comments on negative articles that basically all average out to "It doesn't have to make you think to be fun." Have we forgotten the Matrix already????

On second thought, you're going to hate it. In fact you might just want to skip it until its on cable.

I'm not sure whether this is your point or not, but the Matrix movies didn't make me think. Not once. Not the first one, not the subsequent ones.
