I re-watched the first episode of TNG the other day (I have the entire series on a hard drive, along with TOS and TAS in their entirety), and there wasn't a whole lot of "soul" there, yet. The show developed its soul over time, after both we and the actors became comfortable with the roles.

A sequel is inevitable. I'm curious to see the crew in a more "settled in" stage.

It is the 6th best Star Trek flick, by my reckoning.

I'd have to watch "...Farpoint" again to be able to agree or disagree. But, just from memory, the adventure in that story is born of exploration, as well. It explores humanity, by way of Q, and also addresses the rights of life (the space creature being used as a spaceport... or whatever -- it's been a while).

By the way, I'd be very interested in somehow viewing those animated episodes you have... I've never seen any of them.

I torrented them. Unless you have a converter program, you will need to burn the files to disc before you are able to watch them (if you torrent the same files I torrented).

Filmation animated them, so be prepared for Filmation-style animation. The scripts were written by the show's writers, so they have a similar feel (with a bit less technobabble). There were some action compromises (and a lot of recycled animation), but they were able to have some monsters and locations that would have been difficult to do as live action.

I know a bit about them, and I've seen stills (and I might've even seen an episode a LOOOONG time ago), but I want to see them all. I might just break down and buy the DVDs.
