So, this is finally happening? I thought it was long dead. Anyone have any info on it yet? will it be a real effort for a follow up to a classic, or just another "hip reboot for the MTV crowd"?

I just read about this. Quite a pleasant surprise. I pray it's good. I love the first and if they can update it properly for the Information Age without forgetting its roots, it should be fun.

I caught some of Bruce Boxleitner in a made-for-tv shitfest Sci-Fi channel flick a few months ago called The Bone Eater, so obviously he could find time in his schedule.

The footage is available in various locations on the Net, if you’re willing to take a few seconds to look. I watched it last night and as blurry as it was, it still looked very cool. I love the new designs for the Lightcycles. They’re reminiscent of the old ones but updated just enough to be their own things. But most of all, I was really impressed by the variety in the environments the two racers zoomed through, and the overall look of it. Very nice.

Jeff Bridges still looked a bit like Obadiah Stane, though. It’s the beard.

I'm in. Now, if Disney would just do Condorman 2 we'd all be happy.

I downloaded a copy of the fan-recorded Comic Con footage before it was seemingly taken down from all the major video-sharing sites, so if anyone's interested, I'll try to upload it to a host later. Apparently, someone took the original recording and stabilized it, but I'm not sure if the one I downloaded is the more stable one or the original (since I don't have both versions to compare). Even though it's not crystal-clear by any means, however, you can still make out what's happening, and the best part is that you can hear the fans cheering.

Yeah, that's a pretty rough clip to watch, but it did peak my interest.

Frankly, I look forward to the movie a lot, but I am concerned over the potential appeal to anyone under 30. No one knows Tron anymore. And
"that old guy from Iron Man with a beard" is not going to sell a lot of tickets, IMO.

I'm curious to find out what script/production ideas they have to counter this. And I presume a younger actor?

And, based upon the preview, is it possible that Bridges is now the bad guy, absorb with his own power in the "Tron" world?

Well, that’s the question, isn’t it? They’ll have their core audience of Tron fans, and it’s a fairly significant cult following. But how they promote the film will go a long way to drawing in new viewers and young fans who aren’t familiar with the product.

Personally, I think they should just pay Pixar so they can promote it as a Pixar film. That’ll guarantee it does great business.

I'm not a big Tron fan (I really don't even remember it much, I've netflixed it this week and will re-watch), but this looks like a Serenity situation to me.

People geek out over it, but they're Tron geeks anyway. Go ask any "regular" person what they'd think of a Tron sequel and they probably wouldn't have any idea what you're talking about in the first place.

I foresee a $5 million opening weekend. Unless, of course, it's actually good other than just being Tron and has interesting trailers.

Financing Tron 2 would be the worst idea since somone decided to fund The Mummy 3.

The Matrix (1) did a better job at Tron 2 than Tron 2 will do...

The big screen version of Reboot, the ABC saturday morning CGI series from the 90s actually has more potential than this movie.

If it doesn't have Bruce Boxleitner and Cindy Morgan, there is no sense in even making the damn thing. And let's face it, those two aren't making many big-budget flix these days, so a very small portion of the budget would go to pay either one of them. I'd be surprised if they worked for more than scale.

That said, I'm interested to see where they go with this IF this is indeed a true sequel. I enjoyed the first one. We have until 2010 to find out.

Ok, the fact that the working title is "TR2N" makes me angry.

I just watched it and I stand by my original post. I'm sure it was pretty interesting at the time and I understand it was relatively ground breaking from a SFX perspective, but it's really just one long Jesus movie mixed with some corny old video game ideas/humor. And even the Jesus stuff doesn't get too deep.

The ideas and effects have bypassed this long ago; a sequel won't do anything unless it does something else revolutionary compared to contemporary movies...and somehow I just don't think it will .

I'll also second Hicks' Matrix 1 comparison.

I'll probably end up seeing it for Bridges (what can I say, I dig the way the man talks) but I hope they actually hired some writers this time around.

I also stand by my previous thoughts on Condorman 2. The time is now.

Consider me a Tron geek. But also consider me someone who is skeptical of the quality of a sequel after all these years.

But, since they're doing it, I wish they'd go with the title they batted around about 8-10 years ago: Tron 2.0

The main problem with a Tron sequel is that Tron was an allegory for Christ. Maybe when Jesus comes back, we'll have material from which to make a sequel, but until then, I think the "vision" the sequel would relate would be a little presumptuous at this time.

I'm always amazed that my programs run properly on a fairly regular basis, considering that they're all little people with free-will running around inside my computer.
