Oliver Stone is doing a movie on the Presidency of George W. Bush. It's scheduled for release October 17, 2008.

Biopics, generally speaking, suck, especially the ones made about figures that are still alive.

"Biopics" are kind of like "comedies" in my book.

I get the best of both in REAL LIFE....why do I need to go to see a movie that tells me about what I already know...or in the case of comedies, why do I need to go and see a movie that tells me to laugh?

this isn't going to be a biopic, it's going to be a skewering. It's going to be silly.

I hate Bush and his regime just as much as the next lefty pinko, but I'm not going to get anything out of a movie that'll portray everyone as cartoon characters without really addressing some of the deeper dynamics of the last 8 years.

It also just gives republicans everywhere more reason to hate those nasty liberals and plenty of ammo to lay on the elitist accusations pretty thick. Democrats could do without this movie coming out.

I kinda doubt that will be the case: Stone isn't Michael Moore. He made a very interesting movie about Nixon, the man Democrats most loved to hate before Bush, Jr. came along. I haven't heard too much about this movie, except for casting, but I'd expect Stone would want to do something a little deeper than just portraying Bush as an idiot. Then again, there's a lot of hay to be made over the run-up to the current war, so there's that, but guys like Rumsfeld, Cheney and Wolfowitz (and Bremer, too) are usually the ones who get skewered the most over the case for war.

I personally could give two shits about any version of W, factual or otherwise, but Oliver Stone is a giant numb-nuts hack who was tainted by Vietnam. While I empathize with him, it doesn't mean that I (or anyone else) should wank-off every time he makes a turd of a movie. Just look at the abomination of JFK, a movie some still consider "historical". His constant regurgitation of 60's hippy anti-government propaganda is just as bad as the uber-right wing sovereign citizens who hate the government. I think he needs to continue dropping acid and doing shrooms until dead.
