I watched Total Recall a few weeks ago, and it's not near as good as I remember being (it's still good, don't get me wrong), but at the same time it's much more fun to watch Ahnold beat the ever-loving shit out of bad guys than it is to watch Milla Jovavich or Rose or whoever else retarded fanboys deam to be hot this month attempt to do the same thing.

It annoys me in both Fifth Element and Terminator 2 when the women go "badass," because they try too hard--and I don't believe it, anyway. Which is not to say I don't believe a woman can kick ass. I thought the fight choreography in Mr. and Mrs. Smith was fairly convincing (say what you will about the film or Brangelina); Angie's punches seemed not only to land, but with force.

Wholly more convincing than Summer Glau's hopelessly hokey, weightless dance rehearsal of a "fight" in Serenity.

I don't think there's anything annoying about Sarah Connor going badass in either Terminator movie. In the first one, it's about survival. In the second it's about protecting her vision of the future.

The Fifth Element sucks all kinds of ass for its hokeyness but I thought Milla Jovovich was a pretty convincing badass. She was pretty good in the RE movies, too.

Cameron seems a little obsessed with "empowering" the women in his movies. Sometimes it's cool, sometimes it results in eye-rolling moments like Sarah Conner's one-armed rifle cock, Ripley's "Get away from her, you bitch!" and Rose's toe raise scene in the belly of the Titanic.

He sets Tia up for an "empowerment" moment when the bad guy slaps her in True Lies, but that kinda fizzes out, and the best that she manages later on is that cat fight with that girl people will try to tell you was born a guy.

And he sort of drops the ball with The Abyss with that girl Kevin Costner pretended to like in that movie where he pretended to be Robin Hood.

Really? Really?!
