James Harrison had a monster game this past week. HERE you can see him bodyslamming a Browns fan who ran onto the field a couple of years ago. Funny.

I didn't see the game but saw at one time the Steelers were down 21-7. I thought their goose was cooked!

So did we...

...but then either the Browns left a huge hole (or the Steelers opened it up) for Roethlisberger (gimme a spell check on that, please) to plow through... TWICE... one of which being a touchdown.

Sure Josh Cribbs had a 100 yard return for a touchdown, but it wasn't enough... and then they tried to kick a field goal just outside Phil Dawson's range.

It was an exciting game to be sure, and I'm not disappointed because the Browns only lost by three.

Yeah, that game was a lot of fun. Cleveland really came to play, and they were jumping all over the Steelers in the first half. Pittsburgh's defense pretty much took away any long plays all day, but Cleveland took the short and intermediate stuff for a long drive on their first possession. I think it went something like 16 plays. Then Pittsburgh got a field goal, then Cleveland took back the kickoff to about the 6-yard line, and scored another TD. Then Ben threw a pick (not a bad one, I didn't think: the safety made a great play jumping in front of Holmes's crossing route, and Ben maybe led the receiver just enough that Pool was able to take it away from him). So then Cleveland had the ball with about 13 yards to go and scored again. At that point it was 21-6, and the Steelers added another field goal before the half, though they got real close to the end zone and I was all for going for it on fourth down rather than getting 3 points, but I guess you could say it was the right decision since they won.

In the second half the Steelers D pretty much shut down the Browns: they didn't get another first down until their last possession of the game. The Steelers offense couldn't get anything going for its first couple of possessions, but then the inhumanely strong James Harrison ripped the ball out of Jamal Lewis's hands (this was actually the second time Harrison did this in the game, though the Browns recovered the first one. Still, that gives Harrison 5 forced fumbles in the last 2 games. That's a LOT). The Steelers would score a 12-yard touchdown on a pass where Ward was wide open in the flat, and then did a weird duck-walk into the endzone, where he then gave the ball to a girl who looked like she was about 7-years-old who somehow was on the sideline with her mother. I wonder how you get those tickets. The next touchdown was the really amazing one, where on 3rd and 9 Ben ran 30 yards for a touchdown. At the bar where I was watching the game we just went nuts. We started yelling "GO-GO-GO!" as Ben took off, then as he started to break for the endzone we all jumped up and started yelling. It was cool. That gave us the lead for the 18 seconds it took the Browns kickoff return man to let the squib kick roll by him to the one-inch line, where he bizarrely picked it up with five guys closing in on him, and then of course proceeded to run 99 yards for a touchdown to put the Browns back up. That was disappointing, but I still felt pretty good because of the way Ben was playing, and also the defense, but at that point it was mostly up to Ben and the receivers. Ben ran another ten yards for a first down as the team got close to the endzone, and then he fired a 2-yard pass that Miller made an awesome catch on.

The Browns insanely used TWO timeouts to challenge the catch. First they called a timeout to see if they SHOULD challenge it (at this point I was asking people I was sitting near if I was hallucinating or if the Browns were retarded: if you don't mind risking a timeout, which they obviously didn't, why don't you just challenge it? The only thing I can possibly think of is if they were afraid of wasting their last challenge, but I would think a timeout would be more important). Then, after they had used the timeout to see if they thought it was a good idea to challenge, they did challenge, and then they lost the challenge which cost them their second timeout. At this point the Steelers were up by 3 and the Browns had one timeout left. The Browns went nowhere on the ensuing possession, Pittsburgh ran three times in a row, which used up the Brownies last timeout and run the clock down to about 1:20. Then the Browns were finally able to get a couple of first downs to get the ball in range for a 53-yard field goal. I can't remember for certain, but I think there has maybe been one fifty yard field goal ever made in the six year history of Heines Field. This one bounced down at the back end of the enzone, and we all went berzerk. THE END

I can't believe that the refs missed that field goal call the first time around. Blind bastards. A similar thing happened in the Cowboys-Bills game. The ball went through the uprights and hit the camera that is attached to the support and bounced back into the end zone. The refs at this game got the call right the first time.

Man, I needed a nap after that game.

Yeah, it looked like it didn't go through, then they kept showing it again, from weird angles, which seemed to show that it didn't go through... but then they had the angle from that camera behind and raised just enough to see that it ricocheted and hit the crossbar, then fell just behind the crossbar and bounced forward again.

Only in Cleveland...

Was I the only one that was annoyed by the announcers? I didn't watch the whole game, but after that field goal, they couldn't stop talking about it. Normally I expect this from announcers today because most of them suck, but these guys kept going on and on like every time they opened their mouth it was the first time we had heard about the stupid field goal. And we watched it with them?!? Enough already!

Also, why didn't CBS put a camera on the goal post like every other network or on the goal line? That would have been the best angle to see the field goal and they never showed it? The best angle they had was from the end zone seats in the top deck?

OK, my rant is done...for now.

No one could stop talking about that field goal. I don't think it's ever happened, ever, like that. Even if it has, it happened to the BROWNS. Normally, when something like that happens, it always favors the other team and the Browns lose.



I think the answer to the question about the camera on the goal post is locked away in the same vault with the answer to why the-FUCK aren't these games broadcast in HD? Maybe, since the Browns are doing so well, this year, CBS will deem them worthy enough to broadcast in HD next year.

I think you are right about that not happening before, but the funny thing is it happened twice in the same day. It also happened in the New England-Bills game during the Sunday night game. (I said Cowboys-Bills in my earlier post in error.)

Oh, and the Jets beat the Steelers, from what I'm told. No one seems to have mentioned that here, yet.

Goddamnit Ips, your freaking browns aren't supposed to be good!! My cowboys have their first round pick, and right now it's gonna be in the low 20s. I was sure that would be a top 5 pick next year.

Well, I'm back to post a little more football now that the Steelers are off the schnide. The season hasn't gone quite as well as I'd hoped, but it hasn't been bad. In the past I've mentioned Steelers stellar linebacker James Harrison. He is somewhat of a local legend on the team, where he is know for being silent, but intimidating, and freakishly powerful. At the start of last season, when Joey Porter was put on the cover of Sport Illustrated as "The NFL's Most Dangerous Man," it was laughed at in Steelers circles (as in fans who follow the team closely, not gameday fans) because although Joey was widely liked, Harrison was certainly considered the most feared player on the team. Many of us wondered if, with Joey gone and James moving into the starting lineup, Harrison would get any national notice this year. Well, he turned out to be one of my favorite stories for the team this year, as he will be starting at outside linebacker for the AFC in the Pro Bowl. The reporters who follow the Steelers for SteelCityInsider.com love James, and love to feed his legend. Here's my favorite comment so far about the game last night:

He looked around, pointed at rookie punter Daniel Sepulveda and pointed to an empty seat beside another player. Sepulveda got up and moved.

Yeah, for all the good it did. Incidentally, that's what the Browns had been doing the last two games, which made the Colts so important in Cleveland all of a sudden.

Fucking Colts. Giving the Browns a playoff spot had no impact on them at all. They couldn't just hook a brother up.
