The latest installment, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is set to be released on November 21st. David Yates, who did the Order of the Phoenix, is directing again, and according to IMDB, will also be directing Parts I and II of The Deathly Hollows.

I had forgotten this was coming out this year. I still haven't picked up the DVD of the last one. Might have to do that and re-watch a few to refresh my memory of Rowling's world.

These movies have grown on me, starting about half way through the third one. I can honestly say I look forward to the new installments.

However, this series is VERY well put together. There are shadows and elements in the first movie that are foretelling of actions in the 5th, etc. Very well realized and put together set of movies all in all.

I think the books are great and the movies are a pretty good representation of them. Its really impressive how they all tie together, (books and movies). Referencing the past and alluding to things to come.

I'm looking forward to how they handle everything that went on in the 6th book, (I won't say more for fear of spoiling someone who hasn't read it).

I have not read any of them (I don;t like J.K.'s writing style), but I know some spoilers from my wife. However, since they are making 2 films, presumably 5-5.5 hours worth of movie for the 7th book, I suppose it is possible that they may sneak some of Book 6 into the first movie of Book 7?

Or is that not possible?

Ooooo....I hadn't thought of that.

My guess is that they will do that, but I'm not sure how that will work. There isn't much you could move other than the entire climax and resolution of the film. And if they move that to film 7.1 then it would really screw up the ending of 6. I could see them moving most of the resolution to 7.1, but that would still leave 6 without a resolution.

Interesting thoughts, but I don't think it is one that would work well. I've been proved wrong before though.

Of course, if it's a bad movie and you push it back, you don't push it into Summer Tentpole position. Maybe they're starting to realize they don't have shit for next summer?

that's exactly why they're doing it. This is due to the writer's strike. They didn't have anything lined up for next summer and their totals for this year have already been taken care of by TDK.

This year would have been even bigger for them in the books with TDK and HBP but next year would have looked horrible with no big blockbusters, so they're moving it to make things look better for the accountants.

It's sound reasoning and makes sense, but I'd still rather it be released in a Nov/Dec time of year. I might even be persuaded to wait until Nov/Dec of next year rather than July.
