Harry posted a really negative review (considering he actually liked the prequels) that lasted a few hours before it was pulled--reportedly per LucasFilm's request. Word is that the exact same review will be re-posted once The Clone Wars is officially in theaters.

I keep hoping to see at least one positive review. Not that reviews have any effect on me. I am pretty much immune to them.

I hope this steamer and the tv series that follows loses so much money that Lucas has to sell the franchise just to survive.

That way, he can get back to making his small independent films and the real fans can get the real Star Wars back.

I liked it for what it was, a 3 part Saturday morning cartoon shown on the big screen. I see potential for the series and will watch it when it comes out.

It's fucking terrible, even for a kid's show.

On a scale of Pokemon to Batman: The Animated Series, I'd say it lands somewhere on the Pokemon side of the spectrum.

I'm guessing each episode will be about as epic as a typical episode of G.I. Joe or Transformers, but with a little more standing around and talking than those serieseses had. I'm honestly not all that sure kids are going to dig it. Really young kids might respond positively to the animation style, but kids in the seven-to-twelve age range will probably be put off by it.

The movie I saw (supposedly a stringing together of episodes) had a real lack of charm to it, but it kept trying to insist that it did, indeed, have charm despite its lack of it. It's kind of like that kid on the basketball team who thinks he is brimming with talent and insists that the reason he never gets to play is because the coach "has it out" for him. CG Clone Wars is Uncle Rico.

I'm not sure I'm expressing its attempt at forcing charm adequately. Let's see. Ah! I've got it. You know that scene in Attack of the Clones where Anakin and Obi are going up the elevator talking about Gundarks and trying to convince the audience that they have history and chemistry? The Clone Wars movie is like that scene stretched out over ninety minutes.

Mild spoilers follow. They come to a close before the next set of ellipses.

I watched. Twenty-one minutes of Yoda talking gets to be a little tiresome. He stays in his smirky, "Lost a planet, Master Obi-Wan has" mode for much of the episode. There is a moment that feels pretty true to the OT, where he describes the nature of the Force to some clone troopers. It's pretty cheesy, but it's also a little touching--if only because it appeals directly to warm memories of Yoda telling Luke that he is more than the "crude matter" he (Luke, that is) seems so focused on.

Having watched the cartoon, read (some of) the comics, seen the CG movie and first couple episodes, it amazes me just how frequently Asajj fails Dooku. He acts all huffy half the time, and tells her he hopes she doesn't do it again . . . for "her" sake. Well, I'm just going to go right ahead and jump to the conclusion that when it comes to her, he's just a big fucking pushover. Expect to see her fail consistently throughout the series. Expect her to be a bigger failure to him than Starscream was to Megatron.

They really play up on the comic hi-jinks--especially with the droids. In this case, when they say the target audience is kids, they really, really mean it. Keep that in mind when you watch it. These shows are as much meant for kids as was the Ewoks & Droids Adventure Hour back in '85. Except these are a good bit more talky and politically charged. I'm not sure kids are going to go for it. Some younger-at-heart young adults might. I have no idea. I'll continue to watch, simply because I don't have a choice. I'm a sucker for Star Wars, even when I am not enjoying it. I do belong to the fucking fan club, after all. I guess that makes me slightly more pathetic than most of you. (It's not as if that's the only thing about me that makes me slightly more pathetic.)

Concerning the second episode:

Get ready for the weirdness of hearing Plo Koon talk. (Not that he sounds strange, or anything. Actually, that's kind of what's weird about it. He just sounds like a regular dude--but muffled, and with some slight modulation.)

The race away from ion cannon blast is probably the tensest happening in the CG Clone Wars so far, despite there being some dumb dialog exchanges detracting from it.

In this one, it's Grievous whose failure disappoints Dooku. And Dooku lets him know it. This could get old fast. It doesn't have the charm/hint of humor of the Megatron/Starscream dynamic. It's always played as a super serious moment with Dooku.

Concerning both episodes:

Get ready to see countless audio and visual references ("homages") to the movies. I expressed my concern in this regard after I watched the movie. Looks like it's going to be a show staple. I was hoping the series would do more in the way of forging its own path, but I guess it isn't considered Star Wars unless it is relentlessly self-referential.

I forgot all about it, and was out last night, but it looks like they're re-running it tomorrow night.

Am I to understand that this is not a re-releasing of the movie? Is the movie the first three episodes and this is number 4?

Neither of the shows last night had any of the movie's content. They were better for it. It wasn't a huge step up, or anything, but they were a little less annoying. It could be because the two of them together were only half as long as the movie.

The way I understand it, the movie was eps. 1-3 and this would be eps. 4 and 5.

My guess is that in acuality, the movie will be marketed as just that, a movie, and the episodes on Friday will be 1 & 2 on the inevitable Season 1 DVD set.

Concerning the episodes, I liked them. But I liked the movie too. Like Thursty, I'm a sucker for all things Star Wars. I'm right there with Thursty in patheticness, but my claim is due to my huge Lego SW collection.

I think the show will be a fun distraction. But I'm not hoping for some great dramatic show. I just want some Star Wars coolness in my weekly TV viewing. Lightsabers and space battles are cool, even if the story around them is weak.

There are really only two things I ever wanted from Star Wars. Well, three: Jedi shenanigans, awesome battles and awesome SPACE battles. We got two out of three in two episodes, and it looks like next week's episode might have a space battle (with the predecessor of a Y-Wing, no less!).

To hell with continuity.

To hell with the fact that there's no tension because we know the fates of most of these characters already.

To hell with Asohka (who wasn't that annoying...) and why they never mention her in the films (see to hell with continuity).

Lightsabers. Laser gun battles. Space ships blowing up. I'm five again for an hour a week and I think it's pretty fun.

By "next week's episode," I actually mean this Friday's.
