Thats true. I do tend to fault movies for not having enough big CG monsters in them.

If it doesn't have a big CG monster, especially one that turns toward the camera and lunges at the audience, then I want no part of it.

I guess they could get the young actor and CG him to look like an older Spock...but what would be the point?

Now, if Leonard Nimoy phasers something, then turns towards the audience and lunges at the camera with flames shooting out of his mouth...then THAT would be sweet.

And Star Trek *does* need a reboot.

Star Trek doesn't need a reboot. Star Trek needs good writers. They've all gone on to write other good things, though.

I'd be happy to debate Star Trek with you in that thread. That's something I know quite well. But, yes, nothing good has happened in the Star Trek universe since DS9 ended.

All I know is that Star Trek has done more to kill its own popularity within the common folk more than any other franchise has in the past decade (other than maybe Star Wars).

What is sad about it, for me, is that there is a potential for greatness there.

Everything I have seen for the past decade that is Star Trek-related is complete and utter garbage.

I kind of feel the same way about Star Trek as I do about the comic book films.

I think they all deserve better.

Given the nature of the first film, I doubt Cleese would fit in.

That is a bit sad as Cleese was a fine replacement for Llewelyn, but I think they are trying to distance themselves from the tone of the latest Bonds.

I saw a second trailer for this the other day (I think it was during Fringe). I couldn't find it online to post, but I am pumped for this movie.

Since we don't seem to have a dedicated QoS discussion thread, and this topic is all about 007, I'll post my QoS review here. I saw it opening night, actually, but haven't felt compelled to write about it. In brief, I thought it was fine but nowhere near CR's league, or The Bourne Ultimatum. Craig is great as Bond and I appreciate the chemistry he and Judi Dench have in this new iteration, and I also liked the updating of SPECTRE with Quantum. But overall, it wasn't a memorable film.

They had a foot chase that tried (but failed) at times to recapture the thrill of the parkour sequence from CR; a car chase; a boat chase; and a plane chase. At times, it seemed to me that they were trying to bring things back to the Brosnan-era model, with constant action that really amounted to nothing. I much prefer the efficiency and elegance of CR and the Bourne series.

Hopefully, the next one will be better.

I caught it on Saturday. I feel pretty much the same as Ulic. It was good, but not great. Definitely liked CR better.
